On June 9th, a reporter visited the Jinhua Street Comprehensive Elderly Care Service Center, where various posters were posted throughout. The glass entrance featured information about Yangcheng's domestic service programs, instructions for applying and ordering meals at the Elderly Dining Hall, and flyers for low-cost, convenient services. On the wall at the entrance, at the information desk, and on the information racks, information about the elderly care service center's fees, home care beds, and temporary care service procedures was readily available.
The popularity of this elderly care supermarket is evident in the numerous elderly "customers." The first customer was 68-year-old Aunt Zhen, who arrived in a friend's motorized wheelchair to pick up gifts. Originally a resident of Xihua Road in Jinhua Street, Aunt Zhen later moved to Fanghe Garden in Fangcun. Despite her physical disability and limited mobility, she returns several times a week. "I'm a widowed elderly person, and I get free lunch here every day. I come back regularly, and I always come on Wednesdays for physical therapy and massage to relieve my lumbar and cervical pain," she said.
The second "customer" was Aunt Feng, a 61-year-old resident of Ziguifang. She underwent surgery for a malignant tonsil tumor two or three years ago and still has difficulty swallowing. "I can't eat takeout, and cooking for myself is tiring. Luckily, the meals here are soft, easy to eat, and nutritious, and all I have to pay is 9 yuan," Aunt Feng said.
Wang Xiaohong, head of the Jinhua Subdistrict Public Service Office, explained that in recent years, Jinhua Subdistrict in Liwan District has been promoting a three-in-one smart elderly care service system combining "institutional + community + home." In 2020, they established a comprehensive elderly care service center (Yikang Center). This center provides a variety of one-stop, comprehensive elderly care services, including day care, home care, temporary care, meal delivery, housekeeping, rehabilitation care, medical care, assistive device rental, and home renovations, to the local elderly, especially those with disabilities or dementia who receive minimum living allowances and low incomes. "The center is operated by a third-party government-initiated organization with financial backing. It's not for profit, and many services are free or at a low cost."
